"Just Wanna See You Be Brave..."
When you are a shy person like me, living at college is huge leap outside your comfort zone; it takes a lot of effort and a lot of courage to jump into a new, unknown lifestyle. This was, and still is, one of the hardest things for me to get used to in my transition into college. I always had one or two more outgoing friends to pull me into social situations, invite me into conversations, or just make me feel more comfortable in a given situation. Now that I don't have those friends right here with me, I had to learn to do this all on my own. And this is not an easy job. Your mind tells you that you should go talk to people and be sociable, but your feet won't let you move- you are comfortable right where you are and you don't want to put yourself out there. But then, you have to find all of the courage you have in you, even if it's just a small little ounce, and just do it. I am no expert at this, but I am getting a little bit better day by day. What helps me through? In the summer, Sara Bareilles's song "Brave" was really popular on all of the radio stations. One day when the song came on, my mom told me that she wants me to be brave for school- that she knows it's going to be difficult to be away from home and out of my comfort zone, but I just need to be brave and be myself. So now, whenever I hear that song, I think of two things: my mom and learning to take another tiny step out of my comfort zone everyday. What helps YOU to be brave? Leave me a comment to let me know! As always, thanks for reading! -That Brave University Girl
