Two Different Planets, One Campus

It always amazes me how teaching styles can vary so much in one place. Now that I have started my second semester of college and have a different batch of teachers, I can now compare my teachers this semester to those that I had last semester. A lot of the teachers are pretty similar in the ways they teach- not too hard, not too easy; give good notes and know exactly the direction they hope to move the course. And then there are the ones that you wonder what planet they came from! There are two particular teachers that I have in mind when I say this. Last semester, one of my teachers was just... well, I have no words for how this teacher was. This professor had extremely odd demands for how we should write essays for this class, and when we turned the papers in, it was never precisely what the professor wanted. For someone like me that looks to succeed in everything they do, this was hard to handle. Every time I got an essay back, it seemed as though the rules changed, and I had not done what the teacher had asked of me. To make a long story short, I was incredibly persistent and ended up surprising the teacher (and even myself!) with the turn around I made; all of a sudden, I went from not understanding why the rules changed to being able to produce exactly what my professor asked for. While this was not easy, it certainly taught me a lot about dealing with a difficult teacher. And then we fast forward to this semester, where I have the polar opposite of my professor from the first semester. This professor is very relaxed and has no specific demands (as of yet). Since the semester has just started, I really dont't have a long-winded story about this professor yet, but it just hit me while sitting in class the other day how different these two professors are. What I know for sure is that no matter what kind of teacher you get, whether they are funny, kind, mean, or just plain out there, sometimes you have to go the extra mile with college professors. Most of them really care about the subjects they are teaching, and all they are looking for is someone to show some signs of life, someone to show that they care about what they are being taught- even if it seems like they are from another planet! As always, I want to thank you all for reading about my life in college- it's really been a lot of fun for me to share my experiences and thoughts with you! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it! If you have a twitter, be sure to follow me @universitygirl5.
