Believe in Yourself!

I think the winter blues have really hit me hard this year, and it's showing up in my blog themes recently. Clearly, I am in need of inspiration, motivation, determination, and any kind of -ation there is to help me get through this long, cold winter! And with that, I will delve into my theme for today: believing in yourself. Today, this is so difficult for people to do, especially young people. But in any case, it is a necessity. Why? Because if you don't believe in yourself and your abilities, achieving anything in your life with be ten times harder to do. I know it sounds extreme, but let me give you a scenario to help illustrate this point. Imagine that you have a big dream for your life (which I'm sure you do). You want it more than anything in the world, more than fame or fortune. You want desperately to achieve this dream, and you are highly motivated. But, you have no faith in your abilities. You don't think you have anything to offer the world. You don't think you are talented at anything, and you certainly don't think you would be worthy of getting the dream. As a result, you feel stuck, boxed in, trapped. This is what it feels like to not believe in yourself. Now imagine if you did believe in yourself. How would you be different? Well, for one thing, you would believe that you had something to offer to the world. You would not be afraid to go after your dreams. You would have more faith in your abilities, and therefore, you would probably move forward more confidently in the direction of your dreams. This is the importance of believing in yourself. It is easy to undermine your abilities. What takes work and is difficult to do is to appreciate what you have, and cultivate it further. It is a disservice to yourself, to everything you are, to the core of your being to not appreciate all of the wonderful things that you are. It accomplishes nothing besides keeping you in a prison of your own thoughts. It is said that "the truth sets us free." We can apply that to our own thoughts about ourselves, about believing that we are 'less than' or 'not good enough.' When we do, this is what we get: The truth about ourselves and who we are sets us free from the prison of our negative thoughts about ourselves. So let's be good to ourselves; let's appreciate ourselves. Let's believe that we are worth it, that we are priceless, and we are deserving of all good things. And let's encourage others to do the same. Let's put in the effort together, so all of us can believe in ourselves and better our lives. As always, thanks for reading. Feel free to share this with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, or leave me a comment below- I really would love to hear from you! -That Believing University Girl
