It's that time of year again- time to make the highly-anticipated college decision! I'm sure by now, schools have been eliminated, and half of the decision-making process is done already. But now it is down to the final contenders, and a decision has to be made by May 1. Which school will it be? How do you decide which one will be the right one for you?
Well, the best advice I can give to you is this: pick the school you feel is the best match for you. How can you tell which is probably the best match for you? Ask yourself the following questions: Do I think I will be happy there? Does it have what I want to study? Does it meet most of the requirements I set out to find at the beginning of this process? Do I think this school will provide me with opportunities to achieve my dreams and prepare me for my ultimate goal? If you answered yes to those questions about a certain school, then congratulations, you have just chosen your future college!
I know that this process has probably felt long and was maybe difficult at times. But I want you to remember that this is only the beginning. This is just the beginning of a four-year future. Start preparing yourself. It is a new level of schooling, and when you reach a new, higher level of anything, it brings new challenges. Be ready to fight for your dreams- go to battle each day to do well in the field of study you wish to pursue. Remember, after this level of school, what most likely is going to come next is a job, a.k.a. the real world. So think of it this way: if you have ever played a sport, you go into each game hoping you will win. You suit up before the game, you stretch, you run, you do whatever it is you need to do to prepare for the game. Finally, the game starts. You may be losing in the beginning, and you think it will be impossible for you to come back from behind. But guess what- you thrust even more effort into your performance, you focus intensely, and you come out with a victory. Going into college is very similar- you have to prepare first for what may come, and if you hit a rough patch in the beginning, you will find it in you to try even harder. And in the blink of an eye, your time in college is over and you are graduating. And when it's done, you have come out with a victory, because not only have you gotten your diploma, but you are ultimately one step closer to achieving the dreams you set for yourself when you set out on this journey.
With that said, I hope that wherever you decide to go to college, that you are happy with your decision and that some of the best four years of your life will come to pass during your time there. And if you ever need any advice, you know where to find me ;-)
