For those of you who don't know, this is a severe disease. Symptoms include a general apathy towards drinking and staying out until the early hours of the morning, a tendency to stay in one's dorm room on Friday and Saturday nights, and a disdain for the smell of alcohol and/or drugs.
There is no cure for this disease, but is comes with several side effects. Side effects may include other students looking down upon those suffering with this affliction, difficulty finding friends that also suffer from this condition, and generally fitting with the social norms on campus.
A small minority of college students suffer from this disease, formally known as NPS, or No Party Syndrome. It can be extremely difficult to deal with, as some students try to forcibly rid themselves of the disease by going out, drinking, and commingling with those without the affliction. This is only a temporary remedy, as some find that they are compromising their values when they pursue this line of treatment.
The best remedy for NPS is to cope with it day by day. It is advisable to learn to live with the disease, and recognize that you are not alone. Many other people live comfortably NPS, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Having NPS doesn't make you any less of a person; it is merely difficult to deal with in the college setting. Side effects of the disease will subside after college years, and it will become much easier to handle.
Remember, having NPS doesn't define you. You define you.
