You Survived Orientation, So Now What?

So your freshman orientation is over. You survived all of the embarrassing ice breaker games, the endless informational seminars, and possibly even picking classes. But now what? What do you to between now and the beginning of school? Well, for the most part, you can just enjoy the rest of your summer and wait for school to start. But there are a few things that you need to take care of between now and the big day!

1. Evaluate your orientation experience. I know this sounds kind of funny, since I am basically telling you to think! But, it is important to think about your time at orientation. Did you have a good time? Could you see yourself being happy on that campus? Did you enjoy spending time with any of the people you met? Did you feel more comfortable on campus? All of these things are pretty necessary to know and understand about your time in orientation. This way, once you know how you feel about your school after that experience, you will know what feel and expect when it is time for school to officially begin.

2. Check for textbooks. If you already registered for classes, you may want to find out if the teachers posted the required textbooks for the class online. Some will post them online, either on the school's web portal or on their own websites. Some will just email you the titles of the books they want used for their class. If you are able to find out some of your textbooks, it certainly wouldn't hurt to start hunting them down now! I try to use Amazon for the bulk of my textbooks, simply because they offer the cheapest prices to either purchase the book or to rent it. College bookstores generally overcharge for their books, so try to save your college's bookstore as your last resort textbook buying option.

3. Start wardrobe shopping. College doesn't require a completely new wardrobe, but some new things certainly don't hurt! Start buying basics first, like t-shirts, jeans, shorts, and some nice tops. Don't forget to buy some comfy pairs of flats and sandals! I would also recommend some rain boots- walking from class to class in puddles without rain boots is NOT fun! Once you get most of your basics, you can start branching out into other things, like dresses, skirts, etc. Just make sure you have a good foundation first!

There you have it-my top three things to do between now and the start of your freshman year of college! Have any questions, comments, or additional items to add to the list? Leave me a comment below or tweet me at @universitygirl5!

Until next time,
That University Girl
